People between the ages of 45 and 64 comprise the largest number of its nearly 24,000 residents and the population is predominantly white (82.4 percent), according to projected population figures from the city.
The city's economy is based on a mix of retail businesses, restaurants, office and commercial space, and varied housing prices have made it a magnet for young families, who enjoy raising children in a semi-rural environment. Located within Casselberry are 18 parks and more than two dozen lakes, the largest of which are Lake Howell, Lake Kathryn and the Triplet Chain of Lakes (North, South and Middle Lake Triplet).
Home for centuries to Native Americans known at the St. Johns people, the Casselberry area attracted European and American settlers in the mid-1800s and the area became home to Fort Concord, a blockhouse built to protect them during the Seminole Indian Wars.
The city's development in the 1920s was based in large part on the agricultural business of Gordon J. Barnett of New York, who came to Florida in 1925 and became one of the world's largest growers of Asparagus Plumosus ferns, supplying florists throughout the United States and Canada.
