Lake Mary Preparatory School Reviews

My children have attended LMP for two years and we have been very dissapointed with the teachers, administration, and snobby parents. There are only aboout two teachers in the school who are actually Fl. state certified and most are teaching out of field-this isn't just heresay-these are facts. The school has recently been bought out by the Meritas Corp. and seems to be going downhill fast. This new corp. is all about money and has already spent a ton re-painting the school(when it wasn't needed) and adding a new cafeteria. It is a disgrace to spend all of this money on trivial things when the elementary school-or 'lower school' is currently using an outdated(year 2000) reading curriculum. An eight year old curriculum is completely unacceptable for any school-esp. one that claims to be 'college prep'. My children will be leaving this pretentious, unorganized school fast!

The school was recently bought out by a corporation that runs other private schools and everything about LMP that we once loved is gone.

Our child has excelled at this school. (High School) The school offers various programs depending on what your child requires. Most students will have an opportunity to participate in one (if not more) Varsity teams unlike larger schools. We and our child are very happy with the school.

This is our second year at LMP (we just entered 1st grade). We chose LMP because of the size, cost, location and one of the few private schools in the country that doesn't involve religion as a part of the curriculum. We are extremely satisfied. Compared to public school, which my mother teaches at and nieces and nephew attend, there is no comparison. My daughter reads, writes, is telling time, working on fractions and having fun while doing it. She is ahead of her cousin by a grade level and she is 1 year younger! Your children are motivated, pushed and are expected to perform at an advanced level within this school.

After two years at LMP, we are glad to be gone. The strongest plus at the school is the facility. The teachers were educational, but severely lacked parental socialization skills. This school is certainly not worth the money.

This school has wonderful, strong teachers. My children have received a good education. Unfortunately, the school is so poorly managed and very inconsistent with discipline.

If you are looking for friends and enjoys crafts this is the school for you! Your kid(s) will get a mediocre education. It is all about the parents ego here. Your kids will achieve if you are there to help them achieve. If you leave them on their own they are competing with other kids' parents. This is from 1st grade up. It doesn't sound like it, but I actually like the school. In effect the high tuition keeps riff-raff out. I think the teachers are of average caliber at best, sort of petty. Admin policy: nod/smile/ignore you.

At first visit, we were quite impressed with this school. However, we soon found the administration to be exceedingly difficult to deal with. The quality of the instruction is no better than what we've experienced in public school... We are dissatisfied with the entire experience.

My daughter was at this school for 3 years and we absolutely loved it! We moved to Texas and that is why she stopped going there. Excellent academics, large parent involvement and great extracurricular activities are just a small sum up of this school. The teachers are very involved with their students. There is never a concern as to whether or not your child is getting enough attention. Now that we have moved to Texas, I have realized how far ahead our daughter is compared to the other children. The tuition is also very reasonable compared to the rest of the private schools in the nation. By far the best all round influence my daughter has ever experienced.

While the education is top-rate there is a definate 'snooty' air about this school. The children - even at a young age - are driven hard and sometimes without good reason...one doesn't learn by force alone.

What a wonderful school! You can not beat the education your children will get here. We recently had to relocate and move away from Lake Mary. We are so sad to have left such an amazing school. The teachers are wonderful, class sizes are perfect, and the education is solid and strong. We leave behind not only a wonderful school, but a 'family'. The parents and families involved with LMP are a community with strong values and huge hearts. I great value for a private school with so much to offer.

From our 3 year experience I would say that the elementary is well run and curriculum is great. From 6th grade up, the school is not up to par with their standards. From our experience I would recommend the elementary, but the upper school has a long way to go.
