Arbor Ridge School Reviews

We moved here from another state about four months ago. I am very dissappointed in the school. They focus too much on the FCATS. Every child learns at their own pace, don't force it on them so much. He had great work and behavior at his old school. Every since he started its been nothing but bad according to the teacher. I have no problems at home. I think if the teacher cannot handle the students they need an assistant in the class so the children get more attention which his other school had, I think that made a big difference.

Arbor ridge is a wonderful school, with wonderful staff that take pride of there school.

Arbor Ridge is an excellent school with teachers who go beyond the call of duty to ensure the students succeed. Since 1992, both my boys attended from Kindergarten through 8th grade. (My eldest graduated IB from Winter Park High and is now finishing his sophomore year at FSU.) My youngest is finishing 8th grade. Both principals, former Principal Mr. Ralph Hewitt and current principal Ms. Paige Tracey are extremely dedicated individuals and it shows. There could be more extra-curricular activities and P.E. for Middle School, but I have no complaints about the Academics. Kudos to Arbor Ridge for their dedicated teachers and staff and for laying the education foundation that has prepared my sons for high school, college, and beyond. You're the greatest!

Not very satisfied: Poor attendance at the pta. Administration does not foster open communication, and imposes decisions. Web site not updated. Academics: driven by cat testing! Stress on reading in lower grades k-2, over writing and math; upper grades: strong curriculum, but no good facilities and labs. Do not recommend!

Arbor Ridge School is a great school! The teachers really want the students to be successful, and not just for the FCAT. Unfortunately, the school is getting older.

I was so disappointed in this school. This is supposed to be an awesome school and it was far from it. I can't even begin to tell you all the problems I have had with the principal. There was no communication between the principal, teachers and parents. I do not recommend this school.

I have three children in Arbor Ridge, one in 1st,one in 5th,and the oldest is entering the sixth grade.I can only hope the middle school is as good as the elementary school. So far they have all had great experiences. They truly look out for all the children, their Exceptional Education programs are known to be among the best in Orange County, and I hear their gifted programs are good, too. It would be nice if they had more sports, especially in the Middle School.Basketball would be especially popular,I have heard alot of children complain that all they have is track.Overall, though,it is a great school.

We love this school! Could not have asked for better teachers. The teachers brought each childs gift out. The acedemics were great - extra help provided when needed. (the teacher approached us) Harder work was given when the student could handle it. There could be more parent involvement and the campus looks very sad. But the education is top. I'm sorry that the school only goes to 8th grade. They are lacking for any real sports programs for the middle school. Also no PE classes for the middle school - which is when they kids really need it. Would like to see that change. They work well with the SLD and Gifted kids. The only way to get into the middle school program is through a lottery system. Take a chance and try to get your child in - it is a fantastic school. Great Safety/no tolerance for fights/trash talk.

It needs more parent and teacher involvement.

So far I am deeply dissapointed in this school. I just moved here form across town from a very good school called Sunrise. This is supposed to be a Magnet School, for what? I have nothing positive to say.

Arbor ridge is a very good shool. The staff beleives in helping the kids to learn and it pays off.

Not only is Arbor Ridge a fantastic schools that prepares children perfectly for high school the school has a very family like atmosphere and makes the kids feel highly cared for. I would recommend the middle school acedemic program to anyone, when children go on to highschool from Arbor Ridge they are at the top of there class and the statistics show that.

Our first year in the state of florida after moving down from N.Y. proved to be a positive move(04-05 school year). Although My son has not received the testing I have requested since day one. Arbor Ridge has proven to me that it's the teachers that are to blame not the school. My son is in first grade and was having a very hard time in school untill i requested a class change. My wish was honored after several attempts to maintain him in the same class room. He is now doing better. My daughter who is in kindergarden is over and beyond my expectations. I truly think that Arbor Ridge needs to take a close look at their first grade teachers and let go of the one's that are awaiting retirement. - From a parent that hope to see some changes.

good school, need to up the ex. cur. activitys.

I am a parent of a 3rd grader and 7th grader at this Magnet School. The principal at Arbor Ridge is a warm, caring woman who truly loves what she does. She cares about her staff, which makes for a warm, and inviting school. There are many opportunities for the students to engage in social activities, with assemblies and contests. One of the most positive aspects at Arbor Ridge is the interaction between the older and younger students, both gaining social skills and valuable knowledge from each other. The school's 2003-2004 motto 'We Are Family' is very apparent. Although there is not as much parent support as there should be, the parents who are involved are an invaluable asset!

Arbor Ridge like all other public schools in Orange County have sold out to the FCAT. I am sick and tired of my child learning only what is necessary to pass an FCAT test! A good teacher has more to offer than their knowledge of filling in a bubble!! What a corrupt system we have allowed to consume our public schools. Our children are nothing more than dollar signs in the race to achieve an 'A' rating! I for one would rather be a 'B' school that taught good old fashioned fundamentals...Reading, Writing, Arithmatic over a drone that can fill in a bubble. Remember parents.....monkeys can fill in a bubble. It takes a great teacher and admininstration that allows that freedom for our children to think for themselves and think outside the bubble!

My children have been at Arbor Ridge since January 1998. We have had a wonderful experience there! Both were in the pre-K program and now are in third grade and kindergarten. We have had only excellent teachers who are very involved in the students learning! The only thing I don't like are the portables, but hey, welcome to Florida! I am hoping to keep my children there through the eigth grade, that is how great I think the school is!

Both of my kids attend the Magnet Program at Arbor Ridge. I can't say enough about the teachers. I think that they do an excellent job challenging the students and raising the expectations for the students. As for the Dean of Students, he is exceptional with the students. I belive he is a great asset to that school and as a parent, I am thankful that my children are under his guidance for discipline. Truly express with school and students. Kudos to everyone there.

I think the comment about all the portables in a neg. way is uncalled for being that in Florida, many of the new schools are made that way for the purpose of being able to expand!! Second, the comment about only one other child showed up for meet the teacher, seems very odd when you can't even find a place to park that day, and it doesnt last the 10 min only that many of us stay. Third, this school is a great A school for a reason, much better than many schools out there! No teacher is perfect and there are bad ones everywhere, but give the 99 percent of the teachers out there that work hard the reward they need and deserve!

if have found that the teachers are either exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. one teacher in each grade is a very poor example for the students while the rest of the instructors can hopefully makeup for that short coming. (had students from 4th-8th grades)

I have to admit I was very worried with my daughter's first class. There are 21 children in it, 15 of which are boys. I'm very upset at this and know there are 4 other classes where the gender is balanced. Our daughter does not relate well with boys at all. Only one other girl even showed up for the meet the teacher, so the ratio may be worse than I thought. We found out it's too late to do anything about it a week before school starts. Advice to new parents out there, get a list of the other children first. Besides that, every classroom is a portable :(

The sixth grade teachers at Arbor Ridge are excellent! They know how to keep control of the classroom and keep the students actively involved. Many of the Arbor Ridge teachers have master degrees. We are very impressed with the teachers and the school in general.
